Ása
Independent app studio · Iceland

Apps and more, built in Iceland.

Ása is a one-person studio making iOS apps people open every day — Kalí for what you eat, Endó for endometriosis — with the next one already on the bench.

Our apps

Two on the App Store. More on the bench.

Both apps are built and supported by Ása. Each one has its own website, privacy policy and support page — the links below take you there.

Nutrition & calories

Kalí

Point your camera at a plate. Kalí does the counting.

A nutrition tracker for people who don't want to weigh every ingredient. Photograph a meal and Kalí estimates the calories and macros, or search the food database and scan barcodes when you want it exact.

  • Snap a meal and get calories and macros in seconds
  • Icelandic (ÍSGEM) and USDA food databases, plus barcode scanning
  • Daily goals, macros and weight history in one place
  • Friends, a feed and a leaderboard to keep you honest

Women's health

Endó

Understand your body. Shorten the path to answers.

Endó matches your symptoms against peer-reviewed endometriosis research and helps you log them day by day, so you walk into a doctor's office with a record instead of a guess. A match is never a diagnosis — and the app says so.

  • A 56-symptom questionnaire compared against published research
  • A daily log of pain, symptoms, mood and flow, with your cycle phase
  • Months of structured history you can show a clinician
  • Built with care around a condition that takes years to diagnose
Next up

Something new is in the works.

There's always one more app on the bench. If you'd like to hear when the next one reaches TestFlight, send a short email and you'll be on the list.

What we do

Everything it takes to put an app in someone's pocket

Native iOS, start to finish

Every Ása app is written in SwiftUI for the current iOS, with subscriptions on StoreKit 2 and Apple sign-in where it belongs. No cross-platform wrapper, no web view pretending to be an app — it feels like an iPhone app because it is one.

Backends that stay out of the way

Accounts, sync, friends and leaderboards run on Supabase, with row-level security so each account can only ever read its own data. The app works offline; the cloud is there to back it up.

  • Auth with Apple & Google
  • Device-to-device sync
  • Social feeds & DMs
  • Delete account, for real

AI where it earns its place

Kalí reads a plate from a photo. Endó compares your answers to a published study. Both are useful because they are narrow — there is no chatbot bolted on for the sake of it.

Websites and the boring bits

Each app gets a marketing site, plain-language legal pages and a support page — plus the App Store listing, screenshots and review notes. This site is built the same way.

Privacy by default

No ad networks, no data brokers, no selling anything. Health and nutrition data is personal — the apps store the minimum, say what they store, and let you delete it from inside the app.

Support from the person who wrote the code

There is no ticket queue. Every email lands with the developer, so a bug report on Monday is usually a fix in TestFlight by the end of the week — and a good idea goes straight into the backlog.

How we work

Small team, short loop. Every app Ása has shipped went through the same four steps — and every one of them is still being iterated on.

  1. Start with a real problem

Kalí began because counting calories by hand is miserable. Endó began because endometriosis takes years to diagnose. An app has to earn its place on a home screen, so it has to fix something that actually hurts.

  2. Prototype on a real phone

Native SwiftUI from day one, running on an actual iPhone — not a design file. If it doesn't feel right in the hand, it gets rebuilt before any backend is written.

  3. Ship small, to TestFlight first

Friends and early users get builds before the App Store does. Their feedback decides what lands in 1.0 and what waits.

  4. Listen, fix, repeat

Support email is read by the person who wrote the code, so bugs get fixed fast and good ideas get in. The apps are updated month by month, not once a year.

Good to know

A few things people ask. Anything else — the inbox is open.

One person, based in Iceland. Ása is the studio name that Kalí, Endó and future apps are published under on the App Store. There is no larger team behind the curtain — design, code, backend and support all come from the same desk.
